  • Physical TBR Challenge

Goodreads Reading Challenge

So far, I have read 85 books out of my planned 100! So last year my goal was 70 and I have beat that and some only 6 months into the year! I am very happy!

Prompts Challenge

So, my plan for this challenge was that each month I would set myself a theme and I had to read 3 books from that theme. I have been super successful so far and it has helped me tackle my physical TBR as well!

  • January – Manga

    • The Promised Neverland, Vol.7-11 – Kaiu Shirai
    • Snow White with the Red Hair, Vol. 1 – Sorata Akiduki

    • A Wizard from Earthsea & The Tombs of Atuan – Ursula K. Le Guin

Sequels Challenge

Another challenge that is going at a steady pace. Every year I task myself with reading one more book from all the series I currently have on the go. As the years go on my list of on-going series increase rapidly. So, this year, instead of challenging myself to read all my on-going series I have challenged myself to reading 12. I am just being realistic. Here is what I have read.

  1. The Promised Neverland, Vol.7 by Kaiu Shirai
  2. TLOZ: Twilight Princess, Vol. 2 by Akira Himekawa
  3. Murder in Mesopotamia by Agatha Christie (Herucle Poirot #13)
  4. The Girl from the Other Side, Vol. 2 by Nagabe
  5. Moriarty the Patriot, Vol.2 by Ryosuke Takeuchi
  6. Elantris by Brandon Sanderson (Cosmere)
  7. The Mill House Murders by Yukito Ayatsuji (Locked Room Mystery #2)
  8. The Burning God by R.F. Kuang (The Poppy War #3)
  9. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Vol.5 by Kanehtio Yamada
  10. Luna and the Treasure of Tlaloc by Joe Todd-Stanton (The Brownstone’s Mythical Collection #5)

So, this year I have read 10 out of my planned 12! There were some surprise series that I read that I either hadn’t planned for in the beginning of the year or I didn’t realise they had a book out this year.

But I also started a bunch of new series!

  • Legendborn Saga – Tracey Deonn
  • Snow White with the Red Hair – Sorata Akiduki
  • Drifting Dragons – Taku Kuwabara
  • Children of the Whales – Abi Umeda
  • The Faraway Paladin – Kanata Yanagino
  • Godkiller Trilogy – Hannah Kaner
  • Inuyasha – Rumiko Takahashi
  • Spy X Family – Tatsuya Endo
  • Marwood and Lovett series – Andrew Taylor
  • Yona of the Dawn – Mizuho Kusanagi
  • Claymore – Norihiro Yagi
  • Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind – Hayao Miyazaki
  • Hilda Series – Luke Pearson

Short Story Challenge

This was a challenge I had originally called the Tor.Com Challenge. Where I would read a short story from the Tor.com website. But since then I have branched out side of Tor.com. So my plan was to read 12 short stories, so far I have read 4.

  1. Fruiting Bodies – Kemi Ashing-Giwa
  2. Blood in the Thread – Cheri Kamei
  3. The Wonderful Stag, or the Courtship of Red Elsie – Kathleen Jennings
  4. The Six Deaths of the Saint – Alix E. Harrow

I am not too worried about this challenge as short stories are very accessible and quick to read.

Physical TBR Challenge

So, last year was a big old fail for me. I think I read 12? books from my TBR. So, since I failed to read 30 books from my TBR last year I decided to roll it over to this year. But this year, I have been doing very well! This year, I have read 28 books out of my planned 30! I am so very happy!

  1. A Magic Steeped in Poison – Judy I. Lin
  2. Ashes of London – Andrew Taylor
  3. Children of the Whales, Vol. 1 – Abi Umeda
  4. Drifting Dragons Vol. 1 – Taku Kuwabara
  5. Elantris – Brandon Sanderson
  6. Ember Shadows and the Fate of Mount Never – Rebecca King
  7. Final Acts: Theatre Mysteries – Martin Edwards
  8. Hilda: The Trolberg Stories – Luke Pearson
  9. Hilda: The Wilderness Stories – Luke Pearson
  10. InuYasha, Vol. 1 – Rumiko Takahashi
  11. Legendborn – Tracy Deonn
  12. Legends and Lattes – Travis Baldree
  13. Nausicaa and the Valley, Vol.1 – Hayao Miyazaki

Best Book I Have Read So Far

I have a good feeling this book will make it to my first place spot at the end of the year. Speak of the Devil by Rose Wilding was an incredible read. It was super engaging, heart-breaking and resilient. I literally love this book so much.

Best Sequel I Have Read So Far

The entire Promised Neverland series! The first volume was my fave book from my last Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag and now the entire series has popped up again. Love this series!

A New Release You Haven’t Read But Are Excited For!

The Books of Babel Quartet is one of my all-time favourite series so I literally cannot wait for this September to read The Hexologists by Josiah Bancroft.

Biggest Disappointment So Far!

This might be a bit of a shock to everyone but Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree was just not as good as I hoped it would be. It was just a very fine book. Very middle of the road. I wanted it to be a 5 star read and was just disappointed by it considering the hype!

Biggest Surprise So Far

Never in my life would I think I would give a literary fiction book 5 stars yet here we are. Trust by Hernan Diaz was an incredible read!

Favourite New Author

I don’t really have a stand out author from this year. There have just been so many great ones!

Favourite New Characters

  • Bree – Legendborn
  • Nina – Six of Crows
  • The entire family from Spy X Family
  • Nausicaa – Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
  • Mildred – Trust
  • Arthur – Gwen and Art are Not in Love
  • Hilda – Hilda
  • Hans – Ember Shadows and the Fates of Mount Never

A Book That Made You Cry!

THE ENDING OF THIS BOOK IS TOO MUCH. Lies We Sing to the Sea by Sarah Underwood has such an impactful ending and I am not ok.

A Book That Made You Happy!

Continuing my pattern of loving manga and them making me happy! I was not expecting Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo to be so funny and wholesome!

The Most Beautiful Book You Have Received or Bought This Year

Ok, I legit cannot spin this image around but I bought a Kindle Scribe earlier this year so I could read my Netgalley proofs and PDF documents sent to me through work. It is very beautiful.

What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of This Year?
