So I recently found an article on reedsy.com listing 50 different sub-genres in fantasy and it inspired me to recommend some books in addition to that article. I was unable to meet all 50 as I tried to stick to books I had read but I did include a couple of popular books that fit those themes but I just haven’t read.

Alternate History

Arthurian Fantasy

Plot: This should be the story of Hercules: his twelve labours, his endless adventures…everyone’s favourite hero, right? Well, it’s not. This is the story of everyone else:

Literary Fantasy

Plot: The Buried Giant begins as a couple set off across a troubled land of mist and rain in the hope of finding a son they have not seen in years.

Low Fantasy

Plot: When a reaper comes to collect Wallace from his own funeral, Wallace begins to suspect he might be dead. And when Hugo, the owner of a peculiar tea shop, promises to help him cross over, Wallace decides he’s definitely dead.But even in death he’s not ready to abandon the life he barely lived, so when Wallace is given one week to cross over, he sets about living a lifetime in seven days.

Military Fantasy

Paranormal Fantasy

Steampunk Fantasy

Wuxia Fantasy

YA Fantasy
