WITCH – A Magical Character or Book

The Original Folk and Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm

My choice for this category was a bit obvious. I don’t think you could get more magical than the Brothers Grimm stories. I have loved these stories since I was tiny and to me these stories are the epitome of folklore. I plan on re-reading this collection next year and I’m so excited!

WEREWOLF – The Perfect Book To Read At Night

Uprooted – Naomi Novik

My choice for this category is similar to MeltingPages. This book has a really eerie atmosphere,since throughout the story the characters are oppressed by the ominous woods, but there are also some scary scenes which come out of nowhere and catch you by surprise. I think the eerie atmosphere is perfect for night time but it wouldn’t be Halloween if you didn’t have a few scary scenes chucked in. I also devoured this book in 2 days!

FRANKENSTEIN – A Book That Truly Shocked You

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman

I rarely read contemporary novels. It’s not a genre I ever really got into; I tend to only read novels that are “contemporary” if they work alongside another genre which I prefer like murder mystery. But this book took me by complete surprise. I found it really funny, endearing and the ending really grabbed at my heartstrings.

DEVIL – A Dark, Evil Character

The Winternight Trilogy – Katherine Arden

So, I thought of a lot of characters that could fit in this category, but I decided to go for an option not necessarily underrated but probably not the first character that people instantly think of. I think that the Big Bad of this series is really interesting and unlike what we have seen before.

GRIM REAPER – A Character You Wish Had Never Died

I was so upset when Scythe Curie died. She was literally the beacon of hope in the novel, we thought we were finally to get some justice and a step into a brighter future but no. She died. I was heartbroken and I will always remain heartbroken.

ZOMBIE – A Book That Made You Hungry For More

The Final Empire – Brandon Sanderson

So, I had heard so much hype around the Mistborn series and when I finally got my hands on the first novel, I was incredibly satisfied. I instantly wanted to read the next book. I also heard you appreciate the first book a lot more when you finish the series so I want to finish the series and then re-read the series all over again.

GARGOYLE – A Character That You Would Protect At All Costs

Grover Underwood (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series – Rick Riordan)

Again, I feel like a lot of characters could fit into this category. I decided on Grover from the Percy Jackson series as I feel like he is probably out of the 3 of them, the character with the least amount of combat training so practicality wise I would want to protect him. But, also he is just such a great friend. So supportive, so kind and so funny.

VAMPIRE – A Book That Sucked The Life Out Of You

A Monster Calls – Patrick Ness

Let me tell you, I have a whole review basically explaining why this book fits into this category. But basically, this book hit a bit too close to home for me and I reacted very strongly. I felt physically drained after I finished this book, I think that fits perfectly with the Vampire theme.

GHOST – A Book That Still Haunts You

Lost Boy – Christina Henry

Now, this book can fit into a lot of categories because this is one scary and gory tale. But I think this was one of the first books that really left a long-lasting impression on me. It was the first book I ever cried while reading. I also read it in no time at all, I was fully engaged in the story, it just sucked me in.

DEMON – A Book That Really Scared You

Alice – Christina Henry

Now, I wouldn’t say this book really scared me. But the themes and topics discussed in this book were incredibly scary. I think the atmosphere created was incredibly off-putting but in a great way and I devoured this book. This was the book that got me back into reading after I had book burn out from high school.

SKELETON – A Character You Have A Bone To Pick With

Peter Pettigrew (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – J.K. Rowling)

The topic of Peter Pettigrew and his betrayal of Lily and James is something that sticks with me through this book. I never truly understood why he betrayed them. To me, he is one of the main characters from the series, I would choose to sit down and have a discussion with. I just want to fully understand his motives.

MUMMY – A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time

Circe – Madeline Miller

This book blew me away. I love Greek Mythology and I was just enveloped by this story. This book was very character focused which is not normally my thing as I prefer plot driven books but I just fell in love with Circe’s story. I feel like everyone needs to give it a go and it should be announced as a classic already!

CREEPY DOLL – A Scary Cover

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children – Ransom Riggs

To me, one of the main reasons I picked up this book was due to the creepy black and white photos slotted throughout the story and I think the cover truly captures the creepiness of this book.

TROLL – An Underated Book

Books of Babel Quartet – Josiah Bancroft

I will scream from the rooftops that everyone should read the Books of Babel series. The characters are amazing, the plot is so intricate and the setting is just so cool. Something I have never seen done before. This is so underrated as I don’t see anyone talk about this series and everyone is missing out on an amazing series.

FAIRY – A Mischievous Character

Nik (Gemina – Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff)

I could not resist choosing Nik because I love his mischievous side. The dialogue and his actions throughout the novel perfectly fit the category.

WILL O THE WISP – A Book with an Unexpected Twist

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd – Agatha Christie

You can not have this category without choosing the Queen of Plot Twists herself, Agatha Christie. I will just leave this book here without any more detail because I don’t wanna spoil anything.

WRAITH – A Book or Character That Left You With Rage

Fire and Heist – Sarah Beth Durst

This book was not for me. I found it to be a very ground-level story. The plot made no sense, the main character was all kinds of privilege and the romance was boring. Again, I have the whole review which ultimatley explains why this book fits into this category.

CREEPY CLOWNS – A Book Which Gave You Temporarily or Permanent Fears

Alice by Christina Henry

Again, it has to be Alice. Like I briefly explained further up the post, the themes and topics included in the book were actual fears that I think many women have. But this book for a time did spike that fear for me more than I normally feel it and I found myself bring my female friends and family members that little bit closer to me.
