Bookish Tropes I Love

Not that long ago I wrote a blog post where I listed some of the bookish tropes I wasn’t a fan of. This week, I am doing the opposite. To be honest, I don’t think these are tropes but I am including them anyway. 🙂

Found Family

I love found family soooo much! I love the idea of people coming together and choosing to be together through thick and thin and would go out of their way for their family. I just love the idea that family doesn’t always mean blood and that there is a family out there for everyone and it doesn’t have to be the one they are born into.

Some of my favourite books include:

  • The Heroes of Olympus Series
  • The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet
  • Phryne Fisher Series
  • Books of Babel Series

Class Clown/Comedic Relief Character

I always find myself leaning towards this character. It’s always better followed up with a sad backstory with some amazing character development. I feel that this trope is probably a trope that I personally resonate the most with in terms of book characters. I always love a good laugh so I tend to fall in love with the characters that joke around the most!

Some of my favourite books include:

  • Percy Jackson – The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series
  • Leo Valdez – The Heroes of Olympus Series
  • Nik – The Illuminae Files
  • Sokka – Avatar: The Last Airbender

Badass Female Character That Takes No Shit

So, while the above is most likely who I am… this character is who I want to be! I admire these characters so much and there is nothing more satisfying seeing a woman taking no shit and standing up for herself. Extra points if she has superpowers and if she takes no shit from intimidating men!

Some of my favourite books include:

  • Moiraine – The Wheel of Time Series
  • Phryne Fisher – Phryne Fisher Series
  • Caro Corsham – Daughters of Night
  • Lady Hardcastle and Flo – Lady Hardcastle Mysteries
  • Lust – FullMetal Alchemist
  • Scythe Curie – Arc of Scythe Series

It’s Not Always Good and Evil

To be honest, I have not read many books with these varied morals but I like books where you have varying moral alignment. People who are working for a good cause but takes things to far, characters who only look out for themselves etc. I like when it’s not always good vs evil.

Some of my favourite books include:

  • Wheel of Times Series
  • Battle Royale
  • Mistborn Series
  • FullMetal Alchemist
  • The Last Smile in Sunder City
