Author Shoutouts! #1

So, today I wanted to shoutout some of my fave authors. I will be honest some of the authors on this list I have only read one or two books from but I just know I am going to love all the new stuff they eventually publish. Very quick intro, let’s just jump right in!

  • Author: Brandon Sanderson
  • Number of published works: Too many to count!
  • How many have I read: 4
  • Most known for book/series: Mistborn series and The Stormlight Archives series

Brandon Sanderson was an author I was introduced to on BookTube. So many people were raving about his Mistborn series and after hearing about this man for over a year I finally decided to read The Final Empire and I loved it so much. Cut to now, I have completed the Mistborn Era 1 trilogy and I am currently making my way through the Mistborn Era 2 quartet. I hope to finish books 2 and 3 before 4 comes out.

  • Author: Robert Jordan
  • Number of published works: Around 30
  • How many have I read: 4
  • Most known for book/series: Wheel of Time series

I started reading Robert Jordan around the same time I started Sanderson. I wanted to get my Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones fix but I struggled reading the former and wasn’t interested in reading the latter. After perusing BookTube I started hearing loads of things about this Wheel of Time series and how incredible it was. So, I started researching and in 2019 I started my Wheel of Time journey! Cut to now, I am planning on reading Book 5 in the series early next year!

  • Author: Josiah Bancroft
  • Number of published works: 4
  • How many have I read: 3
  • Most known for book/series: The Books of Babel Quartet

This was an author that I actually found out about on my own. Most of the authors on this list I found on social media but Bancroft and his Books of Babel quartet I picked up when I was randomly browsing at my local Waterstones. I was intrigued by the cover and the setting of the Tower of Babel. I decided on a whim to buy it and give it ago and cut to now I am anxiously waiting for the final book in the series and looking forward to his newest book The Hexologists which has just landed a publisher!

  • Author: Agatha Christie
  • Number of published works: Too many to count!
  • How many have I read: 9
  • Most known for book/series: Hercule Poirot series and the Miss Marple series

This was an author that I tried to start reading all the way back when I was 11! When I was younger I used to watch the Hercule Poirot tv show on ITV all the time, I was obsessed with it. This show was the reason I got into murder mysteries and particularly historical murder mysteries, though I know it her books were written more or less contemporary to the time, I just loved Poirot and the intelligence of the plot. Cut to now, I own the entire box set of the tv show, I am slowly making my way through her entire bibliography and I am going to a talk hosted by the actor of Poirot from the show. Christie has made a major impact on my life.

  • Author: Erin Morgenstern
  • Number of published works: 2
  • How many have I read: 1
  • Most known for book/series: The Night Circus

Now, this author has only ever wrote 2 books in her life. I have read one of them but The Starless Sea resonated with me so much that I have to put her on this list. Later this year, I hope to get around to reading her first ever published novel, The Night Circus. I truly hope she publishes more books in the future.

  • Author: Hafsah Faizal
  • Number of published works: 2
  • How many have I read: 1
  • Most known for book/series: We Hunt the Flame

This was an author who I found through social media. I actually interacted with her tweets for ages before I realised she was an author of this major book I had been hearing about. This book is one of the reasons I keep reading YA. Sometimes YA can really disappoint me but it’s shining stars like this book that keep me holding faith with the age group. I currently own the second book in this series and plan to read it early next year. I also have heard a lot about her current book that she is writing and I just know I’m going to love it so that’s why I have put her on this list.

  • Author: Stuart Turton
  • Number of published works: 2
  • How many have I read: 2
  • Most known for book/series: The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

An author I also found through just browsing in my local Waterstones. I saw Turton’s first published book, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle on the shelf and realised it was right up my street. A historical fiction murder mystery set in the 20’s but with a very interesting premise beyond that. I had to read it. That book was actually the first hardcover book I ever bought myself and I treasure it so much. I was quite nervous reading his second book, The Devil and the Dark Water, but Turton did not disappoint. I don’t know when he will release his next book but I just know I will be the first in line to read it.

  • Author: Madeline Miller
  • Number of published works: 3
  • How many have I read: 2
  • Most known for book/series: The Song of Achilles

Now, I picked up Miller’s debut book, The Song of Achilles, after seeing it hyped up all over social media. I enjoyed it but I wasn’t as blown away by it as everyone else was. It wasn’t until I read Circe did I decide that Miller was an author that I will keep following and reading everything she publishes. Fun fact: Circe was the first book I ever reviewed on this blog!
